Introduced in 1993, Fei Long is definitely one of the iconic heads of the Street Fighter franchise. However, according to one of the important members of the development team of the fifth opus, it could be deleted from the cast… or else, largely modified.

Fei Long first appeared in Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers in 1993: in the lore, he is a martial arts expert as well as a huge movie star. The resemblance to Bruce Lee is obvious and frankly assumed and so far it didn’t seem to bother anyone too much. Until now, therefore.

I was talking hypothetically about Fei Long, which is not a proven fact. As for Mr. Lee’s family, it’s been discussed for years, especially for Quentin Tarantino (in the movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, ed) for the way he portrayed Mr. Lee in a bad light, which was not appreciated. It’s a fact and something the family has protected for a long time.
It’s hard to know if Lindholm pulled the rug out from under Capcom by revealing a big secret or if he just ventured a little too far without verifying his information. Because if the family of Bruce Lee is indeed opposed to Capcom in the representation of Fei Long, we imagine that the developers then only have to modify the character to make it “honourable”, without going through the deletion box pure and hard… We’ll see.
