The NFT adventure continues! – Since May 2021, the auction platform eBay gave in to the sirens of non-fungible tokens (NFT). A new step has therefore been taken. Indeed, the e-commerce company announces the redemption of the NFT exchange platform, KnownOrigin.
E-commerce and NFT, the bet of the online auction giant
Initially, the platform eBay has been somewhat overtaken by non-fungible tokens. She didn’t necessarily see them in a good light. Since then, his position has changed a lot.
Indeed, barely a month ago, the auction site indicated the launch of its first NFT collection home : “Genesis”. These unique tokens made by eBay, on the theme of famous sportsmen, are based on the blockchain Tezos (XTZ).
Today, through a communicated release, eBay has therefore announced theacquisition by KnownOrigin. It is an NFT marketplace headquartered in Manchester (UK). The market was concluded as of this June 22, 2022. No acquisition cost has been communicated for the time being.

eBay wants to be a player in the democratization of NFTs
the skepticism and eBay’s indecisiveness over Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are now well far. Also, the present eBay purchase already shows the will to anchor in the NFT. The Nasdaq-listed company (EBAY share) intends to become a actor of the adoption of crypto-assets.
This rapprochement with cryptos is thus described as “an important step in reimagining” from eBay. The CEO of the platform, Jamie Iannonegoes even further by explaining that NFTs will, in a way, preserve the strength of his society:
“(…) with this acquisition, we will remain a leading site, as our community adds more and more digital collectibles. (…) KnownOrigin has built up an impressive, passionate and loyal group of artists and collectors, making it a perfect addition to our community of sellers and buyers. (…)”
Thanks to their digital transposition collectibles, non-fungible tokens are much appreciated companies like eBay and many others. So, last April, it’s the auction house Sotheby’s which announced the sale of digital art objects, in the form of NFT.
