PlayStation gamers are extremely numerous today, more than 20 years after the release of Sony’s first console. If you’re one of them, the first thing you’ve been asked to do is choose an online identifier, also known as an ID. Some lucky people were therefore able to take exactly the name they wanted, while others settled for a temporary name, or settled for an inelegant variant of their initial idea. Maybe you’ve finally gotten tired of your ID after all these years.

For all these cases, know that changing your name on PlayStation is possible. We explain here the procedure to follow to change your ID online. A piece of advice before starting: keep several options on hand, which you like as much as each other, in order to limit the potential disappointment of seeing your new nickname already taken by another player. Change your ID online on PS4 and PS5

To change your username, go to your console settings. In the tab Users and Accounts then Account (Account managementthen Account information on PS4) click on the settings of Profile. Finally, go to Online ID to start the change. From there, just follow the on-screen steps to make the change.

Note that if you do not go through the process, your new ID is reserved for a period of 24 hours from the moment you press “confirm”. At the end of these 24 hours, if you do not complete the change, you will keep your current ID.

Is there a charge for changing your ID online?

If this isn’t the first time you’ve changed your username, then you must be aware of this rule. Only the very first modification is free. Then PlayStation charges you €9.99 for each additional change. This price is reduced to €4.99 for PlayStation Plus subscribers. You must therefore be sure of the name you want to display before you start.
