News hardware Google News is evolving and will display more relevant content
The Google News platform, also known as Google News, has just had a facelift. It has a new design, but also more precise targeting of the user’s centers of interest, to display more relevant results.
You may not know it, but Google News has been around since 2002. At the time of its launch, this platform was rather new in its proposal: display a curation around the news, focusing on certain themes. In 20 years, water has flowed under the bridges and if Google News is now present in 125 countries and available in 40 different languages, the service had not really undergone a major overhaul. Till today.
Google News reinvents itself on computers
In a blog post published on June 22, Google explains its desire to bring Google News up to date. “To help users dig deeper into important topics and find local news more easily, today we’re launching a redesigned and more customizable Google News experience for desktop.”can we read there.
The new desktop version of Google News offers a clean displaywhich dedicates its central part to major information, and his right-hand column on local news. The company explains that the new look of the service “is inspired by comments sent by users”. At the top of the page, a tab system is present : it is likely to change for each person, since it targets each person’s interests.
Each user with a Google account can customize the topics that appear on their Google News page. This concerns both the tabs and the geographical areas concerned by the local part. “You can now use the filter button to add multiple locations to your local news section, so you never miss important news about the cities and towns you care about. »
More control over the news displayed
Google also explains that it has developed its “fact checking” systemin order to “provide more context” and D’avoid misinformation. When independent organizations have verified certain information, Google News will highlight it. The platform also provides information on the different media present in the news feed. “With this added context, you can follow expert recommendations to verify the source and see what other media is saying on the same topic, to help you make more informed decisions about which sites you might want visit and which results will be most useful to you. »
