On the menu of the Daily this August 19, we start with a new record from Elden Ring. We then continue with a curious idea from the creators of PUBG, before ending with the new ones from Lord of the Rings. The Daily, let’s go!
The link between a virtual influencer and PUBG
Ana is a 100% digital creation, originally from South Korea. It is the creators of the Battle Royal PUBG who are behind its development. Ana is an influencer and offers small clips made in 3D to tell her life story. She loves video games and music, and wants to make people happy. Ana represents a possible turning point for advertising, since unlike influencers, who are real people, she does not take any part in the payments and repeats what she has been asked without risk of controversy behind it. The real issue is whether audiences will bond with pixels, and apparently in Asia that’s taking quite well. There are already influencers and virtual youtubers, and they are successful. But there is no guarantee that it will work as well outside of Asia.
Elden Ring breaks a new record!
Elden Ring has been a sensation since its release in February 2022. It must be said that the game is a real success! FromSoftware should reveal its next game soon, but in the meantime, the studio can count on the huge sales that its juggernaut generates. It had already sold 12 million copies during its first two weeks of release! Elden Ring did not stop there: despite the fact that it is no longer in the center of the news, its sales continue at a good pace. With a total of 16.6 million copies sold in June, it would not be surprising if it reached 20 million by the end of the year. It has a good chance of being rewarded at the Game Awards, which would further boost its sales. We can easily see it entering the prestigious list of the 50 best-selling games of all time, whose minimum bar is set at 22.2 million units.
New Lord of the Rings movies to be announced soon?
Nordic group Embracer again made huge takeovers. She has thus added a very big license to her already busy list: The Lord of the Rings. Embracer has acquired Middle-Earth Enterprises, the company that manages the rights to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and everything related to Tolkien’s writings. Embracer is really buying more and more companies and studios, and in a short period of time. In May, the group bought three studios from Square Enix, including Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider license. And his new takeover of Tolkien’s catalog is one of six new acquisitions. With this acquisition, Embracer has announced that it wants to produce Tolkien’s works again. The group has announced its ideas for Lord of the Rings spin-offs based on iconic characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn and Gollum. Embracer says it wants to continue exploring the license and experimenting with it differently.
